Ashok Kondur, MD, MBA was appointed to the Central Michigan University Board of Trustees by Governor Gretchen Whitmer in December 2024 for an eight-year term, expiring on December 31, 2032. A highly accomplished interventional cardiologist, educator, and healthcare leader, Dr. Kondur brings a wealth of expertise in medical education, healthcare administration, and strategic planning. He currently serves as Associate Professor of Medicine, Chair, and Program Director of Cardiovascular Medicine at Garden City Hospital/Michigan State University. Previously, he was the Associate Program Director of the Interventional Cardiology Fellowship at Detroit Medical Center/Wayne State University.

Dr. Kondur also holds leadership roles as Medical Director of Mechanical Circulatory Support and Complex High-Risk Coronary Interventions at Henry Ford Health, Southfield, MI and Chairman and Program Director of the Cardiovascular Fellowship Program at Garden City Hospital/MSU. With an MBA in finance and marketing from Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business, he expertly integrates clinical knowledge with business strategy to enhance healthcare delivery and medical education. As a former Certificate of Need (CON) Commissioner for the Michigan Department of Health & Human Services, he contributed to shaping healthcare policy and improving access to quality care.

A dedicated advocate for mentorship, student success, and institutional growth, Dr. Kondur is committed to tackling key challenges such as student engagement, declining enrollment, and academic support. His leadership focuses on expanding career opportunities, fostering academic excellence, and ensuring students receive a high-quality, personalized education—all in alignment with CMU’s mission. A graduate of Wayne State University’s postgraduate training programs in cardiology and interventional cardiology fellowship, he brings invaluable expertise to the Board. His efforts are centered on strengthening CMU’s academic programs, financial sustainability, governance, and faculty collaboration, driving innovation, and enhancing student development to ensure long-term institutional success.
