Benefit from a peer mentor
It’s always helpful to know someone who has been in your shoes, especially when it comes to searching for a college and preparing for your first year.
Through the Mentor Collective program, newly admitted CMU students are matched with a current CMU student who serves as a peer mentor.
You are paired with someone invested in your success — a person ready to listen, inspire, help navigate challenges, and recognize opportunities. Through access to your mentor, you will learn what it’s like to be a CMU student and how you can prepare for college.
Your support begins during the spring semester of your senior year and continues all the way through the summer as you attend orientation and get ready to move in. Then, once you are on campus, you can move seamlessly into the continuing first-year Mentor Collective program.
How it works
After completing a short survey so we can get to know you, you will be matched with a current CMU upperclassman who shares common interests, backgrounds, academics, and professional aspirations.

Topics for mentors and mentees to discuss
- How can I prepare to be a successful college student?
- How do I navigate my admissions portal, CMU account, and the next steps in the admissions process?
- What type of support is available on campus to help me succeed academically, socially, and beyond graduation?
- How can I make connections with fellow peers who are also interested in being CMU students?
- What’s life like at CMU?
