Central Michigan University Book Recognition Event logo.

On Wednesday, April 2, 2025, we will celebrate the creative and scholarly achievements of CMU faculty and staff who published books in 2024. Sponsored by the Office of the Provost and the University Libraries, the annual Book Recognition Event celebrates CMU authors, editors, illustrators, and translators.

A writer’s published work embodies their passions, interests, and expertise. This year, we will recognize 17 faculty members whose scholarly and creative efforts resulted in 16 book publications in 2024. These books cover a range of topics, including:

  • Creative works, including a collection of poetry and a gothic novel

  • Gothic themes in Disney’s productions and Herman Melville’s works

  • The history of brewing beer during the Great Depression, the impact of FDR’s New Deal on vulnerable groups, the impact of inflation during the early 1900s, secondary education in China and Taiwan from 1937 to 1960, and the experiences of U.S. Navy pilots during World War II in Hong Kong

  • Pedagogical works, including consent practices in performing arts education, teaching information systems, and teaching writing in online and hybrid spaces

  • And, works about conducting qualitative research, designing user-centered content, telemental healthcare, and trends and circumstances related to writing center labor.

You can view past recipients online and can browse the book collection located at the north end of the Park Library’s second floor.
