Academics

Your academic advisor can answer questions about program requirements and explain how to officially declare or change your major or minor.

Your assigned advisor is based on your intended major or interest area. You can find your advisor and their contact information in Degree Progress, where you can also schedule an appointment.

Visit the Registrar's website for academic calendars, class start dates, and deadlines for adding, dropping or withdrawing from classes.

First, check each course syllabus, located in Blackboard, for additional materials recommended by your instructor. Visit the CMU Bookstore textbook ordering page to find your course books or stop by the store on the second floor of the Bovee University Center.

Work with a subject librarian to find research, access library resources and strengthen your research skills.

Tutoring is a free service for assistance with 100-300 level courses.  You can also consider supplemental instruction - review sessions for each lecture of particularly challenging courses. Request a tutor or check out the supplement instruction schedule

There are plenty of study spaces at Park Library to choose from. When you reserve a room, you’ll choose the type of room, date and time that work for you, then book using your name and Global ID. Study rooms can be reserved up to two weeks in advance.

Finances

We offer more than 1,000 scholarships unique to CMU. Once you’re admitted, answer questions, get matched and apply for scholarships in Scholarship Universe. You can also explore scholarships provided by organizations outside of CMU through Scholarship Universe – Gold. Our Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid can answer any questions you have. 

You can view or pay your bill online or in person at OneCentral via check or credit card.  

Payment Plans can be created at any time. If you’d like to speak with someone about options, schedule an appointment with a OneCentral advisor. 

It’s easy to add a parent, guardian or other supporter as an authorized payer through CMU’s Transact billing system. Once you add them, they’ll receive an email to create their own account, where they can view your bill, make payments and speak with CMU about your billing account.  

Note: Billing authorization and financial aid FERPA authorization are separate. If you want someone to be able to discuss your financial aid with CMU, you also need to complete the FERPA release in your Financial Aid Portal

Remember to file your FAFSA every year to be considered for financial aid. 

Log in to CMU’s Financial Aid Portal to view your most up-to-date financial aid offer, see any required documents and complete your next steps. We will send a notification to your CMICH email when your offer is ready to review.

Call our Student Health Services  at 989-774-6599, Monday – Friday from 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon, and 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. If you’re looking for an appointment outside those hours, you’ll need to call an after-hours clinic in Mount Pleasant.

The Counseling Center provides free and confidential counseling from licensed mental health professionals. Call 989-774-3381 for an appointment. Our Behavioral Health and Psychiatry Services offers psychiatric care for students, faculty and staff. Call 989-774-6599 for an appointment. 

Submit a CARES referral for yourself or someone you are concerned about to receive outreach from a CMU Care Advocate.  

CMCREW ( Central Michigan Collegiate Recovery, Education and Wellness) provides support for alcohol and drug concerns, including one-on-one consultations, wellness and recovery coaching, evaluations, support groups and referrals. Many recovery services are free to students.

The Student Food Pantry supports students who need additional food resources so they can focus on their academic success. The pantry is located at 1200 S. Washington Street, Mount Pleasant, MI 48858.

Get active, meet people and support your well-being through University Recreation. Join a fitness class or sports team, or use the Student Activity Center's recreation and fitness spaces.

Student life and living on campus

CMU offers a full calendar of events and activities throughout the year. Explore campus events and follow student-life offices and organizations to find ways to get involved.

We have more than 300 student organizations to explore and hundreds of activities throughout the year to enjoy and meet new friends. Join an intramural or club sports team; play, compete and connect with fellow gamers on the Esports team; join the Program Board and help bring even more great events to campus; or serve campus as a member of the Student Government Association. You can apply for housing after being admitted to the university, and submitting your enrollment deposit.

Submit maintenance concerns through your Housing Portal

You’ll have a mailbox near the front desk of your residence hall where mail and packages will be delivered. You can access your mailbox with your room key, and you’ll be notified via email when a package has been delivered for you. Be sure to use your correct campus mailing address when having mail or packages sent to you.

Students who live on campus can connect with CARE Advocates in the East, South and Towers Student Success Centers to learn about campus resources and support. 

If you have special dietary needs, we highly recommend scheduling a meeting with Brianna Archangeli, our on-campus dietician. Brianna offers free nutrition counseling for food allergies, religious dietary restrictions, vegetarian/vegan lifestyles, disease management, athletic nutrition and general wellness. 

If you have food allergies, please notify our dining team of your allergies as soon as possible. It’s also important to education yourself on how to navigate your allergies on campus

The Rave Guardian app is a public safety smartphone app that works alongside the Central Alert system to connect students, faculty and staff with campus safety resources. The Office of Civil Rights & Institutional Equity provides resources and support and investigates concerns involving protected harassment or discrimination.

Sexual Aggression Peer Advocates (SAPA) provides survivor-centered, trauma-informed confidential support during fall and spring semesters when classes are in session. Call 989-774-CALL (2255) or text SAPA CHAT at 989-621-3359.

McLaren Central Michigan Emergency Department at 1221 South Drive provides SANE services, including forensic evidence collection, medical treatment and crisis support for individuals age 13 and older. Call 989-772-6777 or go directly to the emergency department.

Parking and transportation

While many destinations are within walking distance of campus, we partner with IRide for transportation to and around campus, local shopping centers and several local apartment communities. Taxi and ride-share services are also available in Mount Pleasant.

The type of parking permit you hold will determine which parking lots you’ll have access to. This campus parking map color codes which permit can park in which lots.  

Yes, parking on campus requires a permit Monday-Friday, from 2:00 a.m.—5:00 p.m. year-round. Visit Parking Services for current parking-permit requirements.

Submit an appeal using the Parking Services Self-Service Portal. You’ll need your ticket number and license plate number available.

Technology

Once you’ve been admitted, go to CMU’s account activation page and follow the prompts to set up your password and security information. You’ll also be prompted to set up multi-factor authentication when you first log in. 

The Office of Information Technology can help with CMU account access, campus technology and technical issues. 

The OIT Help Desk provides both in-person help in Park Library 101, and virtual help through live chats with a Help Desk staff member.
