Update on the Proposed General Education Model
The next step in the Quality Initiative is for the Academic Senate to consider a new model.
The general education models generated a great deal of discussion. The General Education Committee took the feedback from those comments and the broader, university-wide discussion and turned it into a proposal for the Academic Senate to consider.
In order to be transparent about the process of arriving at that proposal, all the feedback collected and reports generated based on that feedback are now available for viewing at the links below (CMICH login required).
The discussion began with a faculty survey that was distributed in the fall of 2022. Based on the survey, an ad hoc committee generated a list of components that were formed into four models. The feedback on these components and models is now available.
Town Hall meetings were held for students, staff, and faculty to discuss the proposed models. The feedback from these meetings, along with feedback from program review and various individual interactions, is also available for review in this summarized document. This document from the ad hoc committee was delivered to the General Education Committee as they began crafting the model the Academic Senate is considering in Fall 2025.
Questions about the revision process can be emailed directly to Joshua Smith, Interim General Education Coordinator.
