John G. Kulhavi '65

John was commissioned into the U.S. Army through the CMU ROTC program and completed active duty in 1969 as Brigadier General.  

He received the Distinguished Purple Heart Medal.  John has been named many times in Barron's Special Report on their Top 100 Financial Advisors, Top 1,000 Financial Advisors, and Top 100 U.S. Stockbrokers.  

He was named to Research Magazine’s “The Winners Circle” in 2006.  In February 2012, he was elected to the Board of Directors of the U.S. Endowment for Forestry and Communities.  

Current member of the Development Board, Events Center Steering Committee and Dean’s Advisory Board. He is a former Board of Trustees member, served as a member of the Fire Up For Excellence Campaign, HSBS Capital Campaign Committee, Campaign Planning Committee, and National Campaign Committee.  He was one of first four inductees into the ROTC Hall of Fame in 1997, received a  honorary alumni award from the College of Business Administration in 2015, a distinguished Alumni Award in 2008, and an Alumni Commitment Award in 2003.  The Rifle Range was named after John in recognition of his donation to help fund this project.  He has named the court in the events center, a residence hall, a room in Park Library, a room in CBA, a laboratory in the Beaver Island Biological Station, a room in the Education Building and a room in the Health Professions Building.  He also established a Professorship in Neurology.  One of his daughters, Lori, is a ’94 grad, as is his nephew, John A. Kulhavi. 

John was Grand Marshal of homecoming 2010 and a Commencement speaker in May 2012.
