Professional Actor
Phil Powers, '86 earned a Bachelor of Science in Education degree with an English major and Speech Communications minor. He has been a professional actor for 17 years. A member of the Actor's Equity Association and the Screen Actors Guild, Powers has been involved in numerous theatre, film and television projects. Powers has worked for many professional theatres including the Lincoln Center, NYC; Purple Rose Theatre; Boarshead Theatre; Gem Theatre; Performance Network Theatre and Meadowbrook Theatre.
Film credits include; Escanaba in 'da Moonlight, Super Sucker, Beyond the Mask, Street Boss and The Butcher's Wife. Television credits include appearances on AMC's Low Winter Sun and HBO's Hung. Powers is currently appearing at the Jewish Ensemble Theatre in the regional premiere of The Value of Names. He is also performing in Wolverine Will, a one-man show that teaches elementary school students about Michigan History.
While at CMU Powers was a member of Alpha Psi Omega, the national honorary theatre fraternity and he performed in numerous University Theatre productions. Powers was also involved in the Mid-Michigan elementary school tour of the Bubbylonian Encounter. This interactive play educated youth, parents, teachers and our wider community about child sexual abuse.
Powers enjoyed returning to CMU to perform in a one-night Summer Theatre production of Almost Maine. This performance featured an all alumni cast which raised money for the Summer Theatre Program.
