Legacy of James E. Span, Jr.
January 12, 1973 - November 24, 2024
A native of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, James held a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology with a concentration in Criminal Justice from Morehouse College (Atlanta, GA), a Master of Divinity degree in the Sociology of Religion from the Morehouse School of Religion of the Interdenominational Theological Center (Atlanta, GA) and a Master of Science in Administration degree in Leadership from Central Michigan University (Mt. Pleasant, MI), and was pursuing a doctorate in Educational Leadership with an emphasis in Higher Education Administration. Some of his hobbies included listening to music, watching movies, and taking long road trips. His professional aspirations included advancing his career in Higher Education Administration (e.g., Vice President of Student Affairs or Dean of Students) while simultaneously utilizing his training and development skills as a speaker, trainer, and workshop facilitator utilizing a servant-leadership approach and transformative leadership style to encourage professional and personal growth.

2005 - Joined the Central Michigan University community to serve as a Residence Hall Director for Campbell Hall.
2016 - Transitioned from Residence Life to pursue academic advising at CMU.
2019 - Transitioned from academic advising to serve as the Associate Director of Cultural Programming within Multicultural Academic Student Services.
2020 - Became the Director of Multicultural Academic Student Services.
2021 - Became the Executive Director of Student Inclusion and Diversity within the Center for Student Inclusion and Diversity.
