Freshmen Program Schedule and Information
We are excited to welcome you to CMU
On your Orientation Day, you will join many of your new classmates and start getting fired up for your first semester! You can always refer back to the Blackboard shell for Pre-Orientation, where you will find new information posted as the semester gets closer.
What happens during the day?
Plan for a full day of programming, including things like:
- Meeting with academic advisors to register for classes for the fall and spring semester
- Connecting with our student mentors and other CMU staff to learn about academic requirements
- Exploring campus resources and ways to get involved
Important reminders for the (in-person) day
- Plan on a full day (see in person schedule below)
- Wear comfortable shoes and plan for the weather
- Bring a water bottle so you can stay hydrated throughout the day
- Family and supporters will have their own version of the day to attend (optional) - you and your family members will attend some sessions together and some separately

*Your academic advising appointment will be scheduled for sometime during this time frame on your orientation day or may be on a date different than your orientation (dependent on academic advisor availability).
A confirmation email will be sent to your CMICH and personal email (if applicable) one week before your scheduled date and will include session links for your virtual meeting. You will also receive information about the date and time of your advising appointment to your CMICH email.
Parents and Supporters Orientation Day
Family is "central" to your student's experience from day one! We welcome supporters to join their students during their Orientation Day session - but please note it's optional and not required.
As part of our Family and Supporter Orientation (in-person only), you'll have the opportunity to learn more about how to support your student's success during their time at CMU through supporter specific sessions, a student panel and more.
