Director's Welcome

Professional headshot of Brad Swanson in a brown suit against a brown background.Welcome new and returning graduate students to Central Michigan University! I encourage you to consider one of our many outstanding programs at the graduate certificate, master and doctoral levels.

Increasingly, an advanced degree is required for jobs that lead to professionally and financially rewarding careers. We are classified by the Carnegie Foundation as a doctoral research university and are one of America’s 100 largest universities. Located in the classic college town of Mount Pleasant, we offer a friendly, safe and accessible campus.

Almost every academic department in our seven colleges offers at least one M.S. degree in addition to interdisciplinary programs. Ph.D. degrees include educational leadership, earth and ecosystem science, mathematics, science of advanced materials, history, and several degrees in psychology. Professional degrees include a master's in professional or school counseling, business administration, and nutrition, as well as doctorates in audiology, physical therapy, and medicine.

In addition to our on-campus programs, we serve students across the U.S. and around the world, either online or at one of our 25 off-campus locations. This includes our most popular program, the Master of Science in Administration, with concentrations such as project management, human resources administration, and public administration.

Beyond the classroom, the CMU experience includes hands-on research opportunities, outdoor recreation, 17 Division I sports teams that have won 40 Mid-American Conference championships in the past decade, and over 300 student organizations.
