Biography

Dr. Gina Wilson spent 20 years as a public school educator prioritizing work to mitigate the effects of environmental and educational barriers for students. Most notably implementing a trauma-informed program model to meet students' social-emotional needs by blending restorative practices, mindfulness, and intentional relationship building allowing students to self-actualize in the classroom setting and have a deep sense of belonging.

In 2019, she began her second career as a Higher Education professional. She is currently an assistant professor of educational leadership at Central Michigan University. In that position, she helps prepare current and future school administrators serving as faculty and program director. She earned a Doctorate of Education in Educational Leadership from Central Michigan University, a Bachelor of Arts in secondary education, and a Master of Education degree in Educational Leadership from Saginaw Valley State University.

Community contribution is important to Dr. Wilson. She currently is the co-chair for Central Michigan University's College of Education and Human Services Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee, a member of the Midland Area Community Foundation's Cultural Awareness Coalition and Access to Community Committee, a Board trustee for West Midland Family Center, a Board trustee for United Way of Midland County, a trustee of the Board of Education for the Midland County Education and Service Agency, and a member of the Michigan Department of Civil Rights Council for Government and Education on Equity and Inclusion. This contribution has been acknowledged throughout her career. Awarded the Dr. Diane Newby Award for Inclusive Excellence in Education, OIDEI, Central Michigan University, 2023 Honored as a Woman of Achievement Social Justice and Advocacy, YWCA of Great Lakes Bay Region, 2022 Featured in the Exploring Her-story; Women in Midland exhibit, Midland Historical Society, 2020 Spirit of Rotary Award Recipient, Midland Noon Rotary, 2014

My research centers on the mindsets, values, beliefs, and practices of pk-12 teachers and administrators and HE faculty and how they cultivate belonging in learning environments. I am interested in how leadership preparation programs support the development of these necessary dispositions, skills, knowledge, and competencies for intentional relationship cultivation and maintenance, emphasizing how intentional relationship building with students, parents, and communities intersect with equity, inclusion, and social justice pedagogical and theoretical frameworks.
