Current Research Projects
My lab focuses on developing and testing conservation strategies for wildlife species at the population, community, and landscape levels. We incorporate field-based studies with spatial analysis within GIS platforms. We have studied and refined non-lethal management tools for carnivores in agricultural landscapes to provide farmer-based management tools needed to successfully coexist with carnivores. Some of our other studies include: impacts of highways on wildlife, spatial ecology of carnivores and birds, avian influenza detection at migratory stopover sites, use of Border Collies to reduce gull conflict at beaches, impacts of Mute Swans in wetlands, communication networks in bobcat populations, anuran and avian communities in Great Lakes coastal wetlands, habitat ecology of rails in Great Lakes coastal wetlands, and factors influencing muskrat population abundance and distribution in Great Lakes coastal wetlands.
