Chief of Police

Larry S. Klaus | Chief of Police

The Central Michigan University Police Department works in partnership with the entire campus community in order to maintain a safe and secure living and learning environment. The CMU Police Department is comprised of highly trained State of Michigan certified police officers who work collaboratively with our community and law enforcement partners from the Mount Pleasant Police Department, Michigan State Police, Isabella County Sheriff's Department, Saginaw Chippewa Tribal Police and the Shepherd Police Department.

As a police department, we implement best practices and believe the professional development of our police department staff is critical in our efforts to prepare and respond to threats to the campus community. Our Mission, "To Protect and Serve with Integrity and Excellence"  is one that is embraced by our police department staff and leadership team. As a police department, we continually strive to conduct excellent investigations, and build trust through our community policing efforts.

It has been both an honor and privilege to be selected as the Chief of Police at Central Michigan University and I look forward to continuing to build a culture of collaboration and inclusion while leading our department's efforts. As a campus community, we are "ONE CMU." The CMU community is comprised of our sons, daughters, friends, neighbors and colleagues. As a police department, we will put forth our best effort every day — to protect and serve this very special place as the guardians of our campus community.
