The University President regularly provides important updates on the university’s plans, priorities and progress to the university community and key stakeholder audiences. These messages can include the annual State of the University Address, legislative testimony, email and video messages to the campus community, and more. This page includes presidential messaging highlights from the past five years.
2025 State of the University Address
In his first year as president, President MacKinnon has witnessed how the collective efforts of the CMU community profoundly shape the lives of students, alumni, faculty, staff, and the region. As the university advances its strategic goals, CMU stands at a pivotal moment—one that will define how it meets challenges, drives innovation, and secures future success.
To reflect on these achievements and share his vision for what lies ahead, President MacKinnon invites all faculty, staff, students, community partners, and friends to the 2025 State of the University Address.

The event will feature a moderated fireside chat. If you would like to submit a question in advance for consideration, you may do so by filling out this form.
In-person seating is available in Plachta Auditorium located in Warriner Hall, and guests are invited to a light reception in Warriner Hall’s second floor atrium following the event.
External guests may park in Lot 18 without a permit.
For those unable to attend in person, a live broadcast of the event also will be available via livestream.
Presidential Investiture Ceremony

The Central Michigan University Board of Trustees hosted the CMU campus community, distinguished guests, and members of the public to the official investiture of Neil MacKinnon as CMU’s 16th president on Friday, April 4, 2025 in Warriner Hall, Plachta Auditorium.
First 100 Days Reflection
On Tuesday, February 11, 2025, President Neil MacKinnon shared his reflections on his first 100 days in office with the CMU community and guests. The president spoke about the strengths, opportunities, and challenges CMU is facing, based on his experiences and interactions with people, programs, and colleges throughout the university. A student leader also moderated an interactive chat with President MacKinnon as part of the event.
