Developing Strategic Priorities

The development of the strategic priorities followed much the same process as the vision statement. The Strategic Planning Team reviewed the strategic plans of many other universities in an effort to explore the variety of strategic priorities. Most universities included student achievement/success, research emphasis, and service to the community both near and far. The draft priority statements given to the Strategic Planning Team by the president were unique in that it put the recruitment, development and retention of high quality faculty and staff in the forefront. In addition, it is common not to identify institutional infrastructure as a priority because it is the foundation for all other priorities. In our case, since strategic priorities are campuswide, infrastructure planning and funding must be included.
