From the implementation of new technologies, to process improvement and adherence to regulations, a well-trained staff impacts the success and productivity of an organization. The Master of Arts degree in Education with a Training and Development concentration is designed to develop corporate trainers, human resource professionals, and anyone in a professional position responsible for training adults, specifically focusing on diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Why This Program & What You'll Learn

The Master of Arts degree in Education: Training and Development (MAE-T&D) was created for professionals who design, deliver, and evaluate learning programs for adults. The program is also designed for those who are looking to change careers into the much-in-demand field of continuing education and training. The MAE-T&D builds on a foundation of operational knowledge and links the concepts of adult learning with a specific focus on the incorporation of culturally relevant instruction and pedagogy. It promotes an understanding of how workers synthesize information and teach advanced skills for effective interaction across and among diversity audiences. 

Students will strengthen their knowledge base of the characteristics and needs of adult learners and develop the skills and practices to effectively engage and motivate adults in educational, nonprofit, and even corporate settings throughout all professional sectors. Students will also learn to design and implement curriculum and assess outcomes of training activities to meet organizational objectives. The core concepts of training and development are designed to address the needs of non-profit organizations, government agencies, and corporations.

The MAED-TD is a 30-credit hour program. All students in the program will take 10 core courses. The program is sequenced to be completed in 2 years taking 2 courses each semester. Program Highlights

This program is designed to provide knowledge and skills for students to function effectively in positions of leadership or teaching in the adult education environment. This is not a certification program but may be utilized for professional advancement. In this program students will:
  • Analyze the role of training in organizations, align the training goals with an organizations strategic planning, and evaluate the relationship between needs analysis and training.
  • Design, develop, deliver, and assess training sessions for both abbreviated and sustained educational activities to adult students.
  • Identify an organizational problem to engage in a hands-on inquiry through the analysis of data to draw reasonable conclusions and offer sound recommendations based on those conclusions.
  • Design, develop, deliver and assess trainings with a focus on Diversity, Equity & Inclusion
  • Pursue roles such as a corporate trainer or community college faculty

Careers & Outcomes

Students who complete the MAE-T&D program will become better facilitators of learning experiences for adults. Graduates will be prepared for professional positions such as training development managers, corporate trainers, human resource professionals, learning designers, military trainers, learning development specialists, directors of employee development, learning managers, training analyst, or positions associated with talent development in the military, non-profit organizations, government agencies, and corporations.
