Changes to the park library’s group study rooms

We hope your semester is going well and that you’re feeling confident about your end of semester projects and exams! In this message, we’ll provide updates about:
- Closure of some group study rooms beginning Thursday, November 20
- Suggestions for great group study spaces throughout the library
Study room closures
If you regularly study in the Park Library, you might notice some significant changes in the coming weeks. To better support important research and creative activity at CMU, the Office of Research and Graduate Studies will be moving into the library. Beginning Thursday, November 20, we will close the group study rooms on the 1st and 4th floors for remodeling. They will become new office spaces for the ORGS team beginning early in 2026. We are excited to welcome them to the hub of campus information and scholarly pursuits!
Amazing alternatives
Rest assured, there is still ample study space in the Park Library! We can accommodate up to 2,000 students at one time and encourage you to explore the variety of study spaces on all four floors.
Two great locations for group/collaborative study include the Copeland Suite on the south end of 2nd floor and 3 East. Both spaces include 3-sided study pods, marker boards, and furniture you can rearrange. The north end of the 2nd floor also has tables where groups can meet and spread out, and the reservable group study rooms on the 2nd and 3rd floors continue to be available.
If you are looking for a quiet study space, check out the Mary Dow Reading Room on the west side of the 3rd floor or the 1st floor Quiet Study Area. Both spaces have spectacular views of the Fabiano gardens and offer a mix of wooden tables and comfy individual study pods. Reservable individual study rooms are available at the north end of the 3rd floor.
We invite you to use this change as an opportunity to explore other great study spaces in the Park Library and find your new favorite location!
