Welcome to the CMU Libraries: Spaces, Services, and Support for Every Student
Welcome! Whether you are a new student or returning for another semester, the CMU Libraries are here to help you succeed in your academics and beyond.
Three things every student should know about CMU Libraries:
- We offer one-on-one support through Ask-a-Librarian, available in person, chat, or email. If you need sources beyond your textbooks for an assignment, we can help you find them quickly.
- Explore our study spaces to see what’s available and find the ones that work best for you. If you’ve only seen one floor of the Park Library building, you’re missing great spaces on the other floors!
- You can access library collections online and in the Park Library. Library Smart Search is your primary portal to our collections. You can also search specific databases or find content on specific subjects through our research guides. We may have copies of your textbooks on course reserves. If we don’t own something you need, we can probably borrow it through our Documents on Demand services or purchase a copy for the collection.
Hidden gems in the Park Library building:
- You can borrow laptops and equipment from the Library Services Desk on the second floor. That’s helpful if your laptop breaks, or you need chargers, cameras, or microphones.
- Be sure to take a break from studying! At the Park Library, you can relax in our Quality of Life rooms on the first or third floors, or in our Study Break Zone on the north end of the second floor, which offers puzzles, games, and more.
- The Baber Room Gallery hosts a variety of artists throughout the year, and the Clarke Historical Library offers exhibitions on different themes as well as online exhibitions on a variety of historic topics. Also check out speaker events hosted by the libraries or other CMU departments in the library’s Opperman Auditorium.
- Many academic service partners have centers in the Park Library, making it a “one-stop shopping” place for help outside the classroom. Whether you need help with math or writing or need to take a test, check out the services available to help you succeed.
