Paul has worked in the major leagues since 2000. Prior to this, he worked in the National League in 1999 and various other leagues from 1992-1998.
Paul has umpired two All-Star Games, two Wild Card Games, eight Division Series, three League Championship Series and the 2013 World Series. He has officiated in two World Baseball Classics.
Paul was umpire for many memorable moments in baseball history, one being in 2007 when Jason Verlander (playing for the Detroit Tigers) threw a no-hitter and in 2019 when Jason (now with the Houston Astros) again threw another no-hitter.
Paul was named a “point of light” in 2020 by the Points of Light Foundation, which was created by former U.S. President George H.W. Bush to spotlight volunteerism and to honor those who give back to their communities. Paul currently serves as Secretary for the UMPS CARE Charity which provides support for children undergoing rigorous medical treatment and their All-Star College Scholarship Program which provides college scholarship monies for children adopted later in life. In addition to the work he does with UMPS Cares, he is involved with many other charities.
