Matt W. Shepard '88

BAA Broadcast & Cinematic Arts

Sports Broadcaster

Beginning as a Farmington Hills native, Matt began announcing games between his siblings and the neighborhood kids. Soon, he would become one of Detroit’s best sportscasters.

Matt graduated from CMU in 1988 with a Bachelor of Applied Arts in Broadcast & Cinematic Arts and by 1993 was a sportscaster for WWJ. He would then move to iHeartCommunications for Fox Sports Detroit and began covering baseball games for the Detroit Tigers, hosting the morning show for WDFN, doing the pre-season games for the Lions, among other amazing on-air opportunities. He officially moved to Bally Sports Detroit to do play-by-play announcing full time in 2021.

In 2018, Matt was the recipient of the Detroit Sports Media’s Ty Tyson Award for Excellence in Sports Broadcasting, along with being awarded the title of Michigan Sportscaster of the Year twice in 2015 and 2016.
