Simplified planning for special events

Central Michigan University is home to unique, inviting and highly flexible facilities for events, conferences, retreats, camps and more.

Current CMU meeting, activity and event guidelines

  • Space must be approved and reserved in advance through CMU Events and Conference Services (774-PLAN) or plan@cmich.edu.
  • No overnight events or camps will be allowed during the summer of 2021.
  • Groups that are internal to CMU departments, offices, colleges, Athletics will be allowed to bring guests from outside of the University for their events, camps, and conferences.
  • Groups external to CMU will need to request permission via the exception guidelines.
  • Campus face-covering policy:
    • Groups of 25 or less who are in a meeting:  face-coverings are required for anyone that is not fully vaccinated
    • Groups of 26 or more – everyone must wear a face-covering regardless of vaccination status.

Indoor events

  • Acknowledgment of CMU safety protocols must be submitted with event requests in order to be considered for approval.
    • CMU guidelines for events prior to the event date
    • Hand sanitizing stations must be made available for participants at all events
    • Know and understand the face-covering guidelines for CMU
  • Any space on campus may be reserved for events or meetings, so long as the size of the group does not exceed the CDC recommended capacity for the space. The limit is established as 100% of space capacity as listed by the fire marshal.

Outdoor events

  • Acknowledgment of CMU safety protocols must be submitted with event requests in order to be considered for approval.
    • CMU guidelines for events
    • Hand sanitizing stations must be made available for participants at all events
    • Know and understand the face-covering guidelines for CMU
  • There will be no limit on the number of people that may gather together outdoors for non-residential gatherings.  Face coverings will no longer be required when outdoors, but MDHHS and CDC recommend that individuals who are not fully vaccinated continue to wear a face-covering in crowded outdoor settings.
  • Rain plan:  indoor backup space will require that a different safety plan be submitted.  Rain plan must be activated no less than 72 hours prior to the event.

External events and travel

  • Must have approval from the appropriate division leader
  • All activities and events must comply with CMU guidelines, which align with local health department requirements.
  • The university reserves the right to postpone, cancel or adjust these guidelines as necessary to comply with university, health department or CDC requirements.

Please note: General Central Michigan University guidelines regarding activities/events for the summer will be enforced.
