Subscription-Based Information Technology Arrangement (SBITA)
A Subscription-Based Information Technology Arrangement (SBITA) is generally a contract that allows the University the right to use a vendor's software or cloud-based technology services for a specified period of time in exchange for payment. Examples may include subscription software agreements, cloud-hosted applications, and Software-as-a-Service (SaaS). Because some SBITA's must be reported by the University as assets and liabilities for accounting purposes, it is important that software subscriptions are identified during the purchasing process.
Common indicators that a contract may be a SBITA:
- The agreement is for software rather than hardware
- The software is accessed through the cloud or vendor-hosted environment
- The University pays annual, quarterly, or monthly subscription fees
- The agreement includes implementation, setup, or configuration services
Please see the Technology Acquisitions for additional information and contact information.
