National Endowment for the Humanities
The National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) is the largest federal funder for the humanities. NEH offers many grant programs to support museums, historic sites, colleges, universities, K-12 teachers, libraries, public television and radio stations, research institutions, independent scholars, and nonprofits nationwide.
The formal announcement for the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) Summer Stipend provides support for continuous, full-time work on a humanities project for a period of two months. Individuals with university affiliations must be nominated by their institution. After the nomination process, the proposals must be submitted directly by individual faculty members.
The NEH guidelines stipulate that each institution may only nominate one faculty member. Consequently, CMU will need to have an internal screening procedure to make the selections of the nominees.
If you are interested in applying for the NEH summer stipend opportunity, please send electronic copies of the following documents to Amy Courter at court1al@cmich.edu no later than 8:00 a.m. on date to be determined for the summer 2027.
- The title and a one-page summary of your project, a statement of how it fits the NEH requirement of “advanced research that is of value to humanities scholars, general audiences, or both,” and your qualifications for this funding
- A two-page resume/CV with relevant recent publications
The ORGS will form an ad hoc committee that will include the respective college deans (or their designee) and ORGS staff. That committee will decide the individual who will be nominated to submit a proposal. Decisions will be communicated with all applicants once the nominees have been determined.
