Post-Award Function

The Office of Sponsored Programs Post-Award Team serves as the CMU's central authority for the non-financial administrative oversight of sponsored awards after funding is received. Post-Award provides guidance, review, monitoring, and coordination to help ensure awards are managed in accordance with sponsor requirements, regulatory obligations, and institutional policies throughout the award lifecycle.

Purpose

As an institutional internal control, the post-award team provides oversight that strengthens compliance, accountability, risk management, and effective stewardship throughout the sponsored project lifecycle. Its focus extends beyond individual projects, departments, and colleges to protect CMU as a whole by promoting consistent compliance, reducing risk, and safeguarding the university's reputation and sponsored funding portfolio.

The primary role of the post-award team is to help ensure that sponsored projects are administered in accordance with:

  • Sponsor terms and conditions

Post-award serves as a bridge between principal investigators (PIs), departments, sponsors, compliance offices, and financial administrators throughout the life of the award.
