MI GEAR UP and Pathways at Central Michigan University have partnered with The Facing Project to share stories from first-generation students, staff and alumni of CMU. Participants of our project titled First Generation: Facing College tell their experiences about being the first to go to college.

The Facing Project, a national program that began in Muncie, Indiana, allows first-generation storytellers to speak about their personal journeys. Each Facing Project theme is selected by the area or school based upon a relevant topic in their community. The idea is that everyone is facing something — from addiction to mental illness to racism.
