Social Media
What we do
Managing social media accounts for the university requires strategy, focus, expertise, and a good dose of that fired-up attitude CMU is known for. We bring strategic direction to the development of our flagship social media accounts to share the stories of our institution and build the CMU brand. And to be sure you have access to the same strategy and expertise, we provide guidance, training, and support for our campus social media managers and moderators who manage other university accounts.

Registered Student Organizations
Hundreds of student groups hold meetings, events and activities on campus throughout the year — they create our campus’ exciting #LifeAtCentral. Registered Student Organizations are not considered official campus partners, but they can play a key role in helping to tell the story of CMU on social media. We invite RSOs to partner with University Communications in three ways:
Instagram Story Takeovers: If your RSO is hosting a campuswide informational campaign, participating in an exciting hands-on learning or professional development event, or engaging the student body in an activity, contact socialmedia@cmich.edu to discuss the possibility of an IG takeover. Advance notice is required, so please reach out at least one month prior to the desired takeover.
RSO featurette: If the members of your RSO get unique leadership or professional development experience as part of your organization’s regular activities, we may select your group for a video featurette. Contact socialmedia@cmich.edu to tell us what makes your RSO unique, and we’ll get in touch to learn more.
Day-of-Event coverage: Is your RSO hosting a fun, engaging and highly visual event on campus? Let us know the time, date and location – along with a brief overview of the event – by emailing socialmedia@cmich.edu. If possible, we’ll send someone from our team to capture live, real-time photo and video of the activity to share on CMU’s main channels. Please note: We cannot guarantee coverage of events, and advance notice is required.
Don’t forget: When your RSO is engaged in events and activities, you can tag CMU in your social media posts using @cmuniversity or hashtags such as #LifeAtCentral and #FireUpChips. We regularly look for and amplify fun, engaging posts created by CMU students, faculty, staff, organizations and alumni!
Due to the tremendous number of events and activities happening on campus each week, CMU cannot promote RSO events on its social media channels. University Communications works with select official campus partners to promote the university’s signature events, which include but are not limited to Leadership Safari, IMPACT, MLK Week, and certain campus partner-sponsored events aligned with CMU’s mission, values and brand pillars.
