Ferrara, Christopher

Dr. Christopher Ferrara has gained international recognition as an acclaimed chamber musician and prominent educator, having appeared on stage throughout the United States and Europe. From deeply engaging performances to high-fidelity classical video production, he has built a multifaceted career as a violinist, chamber musician, educator, and producer. At the heart of his work is the belief that music thrives through connection—whether between artists sharing the stage, a student and teacher discovering a breakthrough, or that uncanny link between performers and their audiences.

Dr. Ferrara’s performance career bridges traditional concert halls with large-scale crossover events. He has performed at venues such as Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, and Benaroya Hall, as well as for large crowds at the Smithsonian Institute and major convention centers in Washington DC, Seattle, New York, and Atlanta. He has been a featured artist in several chamber music series including the New York Classic Forum, Forte New York Chamber Music Series, and Rites of Spring Music Festival, and collaborated with members of the Borromeo, Ensō, Daedalus, and Emerson String Quartets.

Connecting with audiences beyond the traditional concert setting, Dr. Ferrara spent over fifteen years touring with Triforce Quartet and the Videri String Quartet—two groups that specialize in performing classical repertoire alongside crossover programs. During his tenure, Triforce Quartet gained international acclaim, recorded two full-length albums, performed at notable conventions such as PAX and MAGFest, and made guest appearances with Video Games Live and Capcom Live. Having been introduced to concert production while touring, Dr. Ferrara became enamored with recording technologies. Fusing his proclivity for technology and chamber music, he consequently became a recording engineer and producer at Skillman Music Studios in Brooklyn, New York. After spending a couple years honing his recording and production skills, he performed in and produced Videri String Quartet’s debut album—Bits & Bytes—which pairs works by Dvořák, Shostakovich, and Ravel with music by game composers such as Uematsu, Shimomura, and Kondo. A frequent recording artist himself, he has also been featured on numerous major video game soundtracks, including titles in the Final Fantasy franchise.

Above all, Dr. Ferrara is a passionate and devoted educator who has dedicated more than two decades to developing young talents. He has held faculty appointments at Long Island Conservatory, Bard Conservatory’s Pre-College Division, Great Neck Conservatory, and most recently served as violin and viola professor at Central Michigan University’s School of Music. Many of the students he has mentored have gone on to study at institutions such as Manhattan School of Music, Peabody Conservatory, Schwob School of Music, and Cleveland Institute of Music, and have participated in prestigious summer programs including Aspen Music Festival, Round Top, and the National Music Festival. Numerous students have taken their next professional steps by winning positions at New World Symphony and Orchestra Cherubini.

Beyond his own studio, he has given masterclasses at the Virginia Governor’s School for the Arts, George Mason University, and James Madison University, and has presented lectures at Eastern Mennonite University and Dalhousie University, among others. He is also regularly invited to teach at summer festivals across the country, including the Sem Creative Arts Program and 4Strings Music Festival in the Catskill Mountains.

Dr. Ferrara earned his Bachelor of Music from East Carolina University, under the guidance of Ara Gregorian and Melissa Reardon. He completed his Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees from Stony Brook University, where he studied under Hagai Shaham, Soovin Kim, and members of the Emerson String Quartet. He currently performs on a contemporary violin made in 2006 by Daniel Salini.
