Biography

Heather Trommer-Beardslee (she / her), MFA, MA is the Coordinator of the Central Michigan University Dance Program and Artistic Director of the University Theatre Dance Company. Her concert dances and dance films have been performed / screened nationally and internationally and her articles have been published in the Journal of Dance Education, Teaching Artist Journal, Journal of Applied Arts and Health, and Dance Education in Practice. Her book project, Removing the Educational Silos: Multidisciplinary and Interdisciplinary Education was released in Fall 2022 (Intellect / U Chicago Press) and Consent Practices in Performing Arts Education (Intellect / U Chicago Press) was released in Fall 2024. For ten years, she worked for the Emmy-Award winning, Chicago-based dance company, Jump Rhythm Jazz Project as their Booking Manager and Executive Director. Heather used many of these experiences and her work as a manager and teacher at two dance studios in writing her textbook, Dance Production and Management (Princeton Book Company, 2013).

 

Recent Scholarship

Transitions, an exploration in dance, music, film and conversation with military veterans ; Music in Motion, a multi-media collaborative production involving live music, dance, fabric, film and light and research; a dance film, Waiting in the Rain, directed by Eric Limarenko; and Sand Dunes an interdisciplinary performance involving biology, original music, dance and costumes. Sand Dunes was chosen to be presented as part of the 2016 Regeneration concert in Detroit, MI.​
