Dr. Kang's research includes the areas of technology management in services, strategic technology management in small and entrepreneurial business, strategic planning, supply chain management in services, and international technology management/planning/implementation.

He has certifications in Six Sigma Black Belt and Capstone Simulation Training. His work has appeared in the IEEE Transactions on Engineering ManagementJournal of Strategic ChangeJournal of Digital BusinessInternational Journal of Applied Management and Technology and Business Journal for Entrepreneurs.
