Biography

Dr. Mabesa received his Bachelor of Science, Master of Science, and Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Wayne State University in Detroit, MI.  Dr. Mabesa's dissertation is titled "Smart MicroElectroMechanical Systems (MEMS) Packaging: Utilizing Localized Heating and Cooling for Shape Memory Materials".  Dr. Mabesa has over 20 peer-reviewed publications in the areas of shape memory materials and MEMS.  Dr. Mabesa also holds Level III certification from the Defense Acquisition University in both Program Management and Systems Engineering; Level II in Science & Technology Management and Test & Evaluation.  Additionally, Dr. Mabesa is a member of the U.S. Army Acquisition Corps.

Dr. Mabesa has taught at Central Michigan University since 2006 in the College of Engineering & Technology, College of Education & Human Services, and Global Campus.  Dr. Mabesa previously served as the Associate Director for the Systems Engineering Directorate at the U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command’s Ground Vehicle Systems Center at the Detroit Arsenal in Warren, MI. since 1999. Dr. Mabesa was awarded the Commander's Award for Civilian Service (2010 and 2016) and the Meritorius Civilian Service Award in 2021.
