Biography

Dr. Jyotsna Pandey’s medical career began in India at Banaras Hindu University’s Institute of Medical Sciences, where she received her MBBS, did her residency, and became board certified in both anatomic and clinical pathology with an MD (Pathology). Subsequently, she specialized in hematopathology and cytopathology. Her career spanning three continents includes clinical practice, research and academic medicine. She has served as residency program director and supervised dissertations of over 30 resident physicians. She has worked on the executive committee of International Academy of Pathology (Indian division) and has served as Editor and on editorial panels of journals. Dr. Pandey has over 70 publications in peer reviewed journals resulting from her clinical and bench research. She has edited books and contributed chapters to books. She has been invited as a speaker to workshops/seminars including symposium at AACR. She has organized and participated in seminars/workshops for continuing medical education in pathology and cytopathology, including WHO sponsored seminars and workshops. She was awarded two World Health Organization (WHO) fellowships for technology transfer programs in infectious disease (Royal Tropical Institute and Central Academy of Medicine at Amsterdam, Netherlands), and use of electron microscopy in diagnostic pathology (Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok, Thailand). She is also a recipient of the American Association for Cancer Research-Aflac Cancer Research award, the Fellows Award for Research Excellence-NIH, and a Certificate of Merit for Outstanding Mentor-NIH. Her research profile includes a fellowship at National Cancer Institute of the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Her areas of research included tumor-induced angiogenesis and factors involved in metastasis in lung cancer. Her present research interest is community-based projects for “healthy aging” and Opioids. She has several ongoing major grant funded projects through Michigan Health Endowment Fund, Josiah Macy Jr Foundation, US Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Assistance Innovative Prosecution Solutions, and federal sources like Area Agency on Aging. Dr. Pandey enjoys reading, painting and learning from the cultural diversity of the world as an avid traveler.
