Biography

Kathryn Witkowski, mezzo-soprano, is an educator, performer, and researcher. She holds a BM in Vocal Performance from Central Michigan University and an MM in Vocal Pedagogy from Belmont University.

As a performer, Kathryn has appeared in productions of The Last Five Years, Sweeney Todd, Hansel und Gretel, The Merry Widow, and most notably as Carmen, where her portrayal was praised for “the sultriness of her voice,” capturing both the sensuality and dramatic depth of the role.

Kathryn’s research interests include Musical Theatre Vocal Pedagogy, as well as the intersection of vocal health and performance, with particular focus on hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (hEDS) and its implications for singers. She also investigates best practices in musical theatre repertoire selection for classical singers, belting technique, and musical theatre and classical crossover singing. She has presented her work at the MSVMA Summer Conference and the Michigan Music Conference, engaging with both choral and private voice educators on evolving approaches to voice pedagogy.

In the studio, Kathryn draws upon her training and research to guide students in classical, musical theatre, and CCM styles, fostering healthy, versatile, and expressive singing.
