Biography

Professor Getahun’s research is on African and African Diaspora history, with a focus on contemporary Ethiopian/Eritrean refugee and immigrant communities in the United States. His other interests include urban history and a history of political violence in Ethiopia. He joined the faculty at Central Michigan University in 2004.

Professor Getahun is a two-time recipient of the prestigious US Fulbright award: 2001 and 2012, and the CMU’s Provost (2007) and President’s (2016) Award for Outstanding Research and Creative Endeavour.
