Thank you for attending the event!
We hope to offer this type of workshop again in 2023-2024.

Leverage your professional brand to direct your graduate school and job search experience. Consultants Michelle Peters and Cassie Briggs (pictured right) will lead this workshop which will include a 60-minute general session and a 90-minute field-specific breakout session and will:

  • provide tools and resources that help you identify your target profession,
  • discuss how to craft your professional brand, and
  • provide specific insights into how you can use your professional brand to direct your graduate school experience and job search strategy, helping you alleviate stress and land a job after graduation.

Graduate school can be stressful: adjusting to a new way of learning with less structure and instruction, navigating professional relationships, and tackling big assignments.

Navigating the job market isn’t any easier: endlessly scrolling through job boards, preparing and customizing your application materials for each relevant opening, and waiting anxiously for an interview or offer.

Your graduate school experience has the potential to broaden and deepen your technical knowledge and skills, expand your professional network, and build your autonomy and confidence as a scholar. The key is to clarify your target profession and establish your professional brand.

In this interactive seminar we 1) provide tools and resources that help you identify your target profession, 2) discuss how to craft your professional brand, and 3) provide specific insights into how you can use your professional brand to direct your graduate school experience and job search strategy.

After attending this session you’ll know what to say about yourself without feeling braggadocious or causing the others to think you’re the most arrogant person living.

Your brand is your signature in the marketplace, something that is easily identifiable and incredibly valuable because it can unlock many opportunities.

If you don’t identify your brand, you run the risk of others defining it for you which could mean you end up in roles and places in which you fail to flourish as a professional.

Once you’ve identified your brand your confidence will overflow. You’ll be unstoppable.

Owning and knowing your professional brand will clarify your career path and connect you in a renewed way to your organization exponentially increasing your impact.

We’ll also discuss the elements of an impactful resume, composing compelling bullet points and how to weave your brand into your resume and other self-marketing documents.

Your academic and career journey is as unique as you are. You have a cumulation of experiences no one else has. You’ve developed unique perspectives and approaches. And as you progress through your graduate program, you become more valuable.

Your application (cover letter, resume, etc.) is your first opportunity to share your unique story and convey your exceptional value. Yet so many resumes read like a list of job duties rather than a progression of accomplishments - far from compelling.

Where you apply is equally important since every organization has their own mission, vision, and culture. Yet so many blanket the job market with the same resume, applying for every opportunity they find - yet to land a job.

In this workshop, we will (1) identify the audience that will appreciate your story and (2) transform your resume into a compelling story sure to land you a more fulfilling job after graduation.

There will be a variety of frozen treats available after the breakout sessions at 3:45pm.
