Michigan National Guard State Tuition Assistance Program

The Michigan National Guard State Tuition Assistance Program (MINGSTAP) will pay up to $14,400.00 per year for undergraduate students and $6,000.00 per year for graduate students. The lifetime cap for the program is $86,400.00 for undergraduate students and $25,200.00 for graduate students.

NEW! MINGSTAP is now available to Family Members (FMs) and Service Members (SMs). SMs and FMs can use MINGSTAP alone or combined, not to exceed the SM's year and lifetime caps.

It is a requirement to use MINGSTAP: if the student is the Service Member, they must also use Federal Tuition Assistance (FTA). Dependent students are not required to use FTA because they are not eligible for FTA.

A new change in rules of Federal Tuition Assistance (FTA) and GI Bill® allows for students to use FTA and Chapter 1606 (Montgomery GI Bill® - Selected Reserve) at the same time. Since it is required that you are using FTA with MINGSTAP, that means that you can use all 3 benefits at the same time.

If you have questions regarding MINGSTAP, please contact Military Compliance (militaryTAsupport@cmich.edu).
