Biography

Dr. Amy Jo Halliday is a Lecturer of Music Theatre Applied Voice at Central Michigan University and a professional performer and educator with a career spanning musical theatre, concert performance and voiceover/commercial recording. She has performed extensively throughout the United States, with significant professional career residencies in Portland, Oregon and Phoenix, Arizona.

Dr. Halliday’s professional performance credits include Christine Daaé in the First National Tour of The Phantom of the Opera, a guest soloist with the Phoenix Symphony & Oregon Symphony, and soloist with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. She was also the singing voice featured in a national Mountain Dew commercial that aired during the Super Bowl. Her work as a performer has been recognized with numerous AriZoni, Drammy, and PAMTA Awards.

Dr. Halliday holds a DMA in Vocal Performance and Pedagogy from Arizona State University, a Master of Music in Vocal Performance from Portland State University, and a Bachelor of Music in Musical Theatre from Arizona State University.

Her scholarly research centers on the representation and performance of mature women in the musicals of Stephen Sondheim, the subject of her DMA dissertation. Her research explores the intersection of age, gender, character development, vocal writing, and theatrical representation, with broader interests in the longevity and sustainability of women’s careers in musical theatre.

Dr. Halliday is a member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS). Her teaching and professional work reflect her commitment to developing versatile, healthy, and expressive singers who are prepared for the demands of contemporary musical theatre and professional performance.

Away from the studio and stage, Dr. Halliday treasures her husband of nearly 30 years, their four beautiful children, and their beloved dachshund, Noodles.
