Biography

In July of 2026, Joshua Nosanchuk, M.D., began serving as the dean of the Covenant HealthCare College of Medicine at Central Michigan University, a Division 1, doctoral-research institution of higher education located in Mount Pleasant, Michigan. He came to the role with an extensive history of service as a medical practitioner, educator and researcher, making him abundantly qualified to lead the institution into the future. 

Prior to joining CMU, Nosanchuk had an impactful career at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York, where he was an integral part of the M.D. educational program for nearly three decades. During that time, he was an active faculty member in both the Department of Medicine, Division of Infectious Diseases, and the Department of Microbiology and Immunology. He also served as assistant dean of Student Affairs and then assumed leadership of the M.D. program as the senior associate dean for Medical Education.

Throughout his tenure at Albert Einstein, Nosanchuk maintained an active NIH-funded laboratory for his research on fungal pathogenesis and wound healing. He has authored or co-authored more than 390 peer-reviewed papers and has received dozens of prestigious awards for his work as a physician, educator and scientific researcher.

In addition to his extensive mentoring and coaching efforts to a vast number of students, staff and faculty at Albert Einstein, Nosanchuk also has a rich history of collaboration with Brazilian scientists, supported by an NIH Fogarty award and grants from the Brazilian government.  His current scientific advisory roles include:

  • Scientific Advisory Board Member, Medical Research Council Centre for Medical Mycology at the University of Exeter, United Kingdom, Latin American Network in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
  • International Advisor, Hungarian National Academy of Scientists Education, Szeged, Hungary.
  • External Advisor, MD-PhD Program, Rutgers New Jersey Medical School, New Jersey.
  • Advisory Researcher, Center for Technological Development in Health, Oswaldo Cruz Foundation, Ministry of Health, Brazil.

More about Joshua Nosanchuk

Nosanchuk is a board-certified physician in both internal medicine and infectious diseases. He has served as an attending physician in the division of infectious diseases at Jacobi Medical Center and at Montefiore Health System, both located in the Bronx, New York.
Nosanchuk received his bachelor’s degree in history from Cornell University College of Arts & Sciences and his medical degree from Cornell University Medical College, both in New York. He then completed his internship and residency training with the Department of Internal Medicine, also through Cornell University Medical College at The New York Hospital and Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. Nosanchuk completed both a clinical fellowship and a research fellowship in infectious diseases through Albert Einstein College of Medicine.

Nosanchuk is also a certified physician executive through the American Association for Physician Leadership and is an active member of many other nationally recognized medical and academic committees and societies, including:
