Biography

Dr. Katherine Feather is an Associate Professor in the Counseling Program whose research focuses on autism, counselor education, and mental health promotion. Her scholarship aims to improve counseling practices for autistic individuals and their families while advancing the preparation and wellness of counselors, counselor trainees, and K-12 educators. She has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and book chapters, secured more than $6.1 million in external grant funding as a principal investigator and co-investigator, and presented her work at national, regional, and state conferences.

Dr. Feather approaches teaching as a collaborative and relational process grounded in authenticity, mutuality, and a genuine openness to learning alongside her students. She is committed to creating engaging, student-centered learning environments that honor diverse learning styles, encourage student voice, and foster professional growth. This commitment extends beyond the classroom through research mentorship and scholarly collaboration, where she has guided master's and doctoral students in securing grant funding, presenting at professional conferences, and publishing their work. Her overarching goal is to prepare compassionate, culturally responsive counselors and counselor educators who are equipped to advance the mental health and well-being of the communities they serve.
