Biography
My name is Dr. Sydnie Spearman! I received my master's in Forensic Psychology and PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision from The Chicago School. Additionally, I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) and Board Approved Supervisor in the state of Maryland, as well as a National Certified Counselor (NCC) and Board-Certified Telemental Health Provider (BC-TMH). I have been engaging with a diverse group of clients since 2016 and have worked in community based mental health, outpatient (OP) and intensive outpatient (IOP) programs, and correctional settings with a focus on mood disorders, substance abuse/addictions concerns, LGBTQIA+ experiences, and life-stage challenges.
My research and advocacy interests are centered on highlighting LGBTQIA+ folx experiences within correctional institutions and increasing the understanding of how inadequate treatment can contribute to the continued trauma experiences of queer and trans people of color, specifically calling attention to the pursuit for, and engagement with, resilience resources.
