Program Snapshot
What can I do with advanced historical studies?
This certificate provides social studies education majors with an opportunity to expand their base of content knowledge through more advanced and rigorous coursework in history. A stronger foundation in a content area has been linked to an increased ability to teach content in creative and engaging ways. Those who pursue and complete this certificate will also have the option to continue their studies to pursue a M.A. in History at CMU through an accelerated master's program.
While you may choose to complete just the certificate, the certificate also provides an accelerated path for majors who are interested in graduate studies in History. If you pursue this option, this pathway allows you to leverage your major electives and the certificate courses to potentially count to a future M.A. in History.
