Research focus areas and faculty expertise
Dr. Dale LeCaptain
Environmental and materials analysis using spectroscopy and sensor technologies
If you're interested in how chemistry helps us understand and protect the environment, consider joining research under Dr. Dale LeCaptain. His work focuses on applying spectroscopy, chromatographic separations, and sensor technologies to environmental and materials chemistry. These analytical tools are not only vital for supporting cutting-edge scientific research, but they also serve as a foundation for training you to become
Dr. Ajit Sharma
Biomedical applications of dendrimers through advanced analytical techniques
In Dr. Ajit Sharma’s lab, you’ll have the opportunity to contribute to the synthesis and characterization of dendrimers for biomedical applications. Collaborating with Dr. Swanson and other faculty across CMU, including the Departments of Biology, Chemistry & Biochemistry, and the College of Medicine, as well as international partners in Europe, you’ll apply advanced techniques such as RP-HPLC, SEC-HPLC, mass spectrometry, isoelectric focusing, and PAGE. Together, you’ll explore the role of dendrimers in addressing oxidative stress, neurodegenerative diseases, and vaccine development.
