2015-2016 Reaffirmation of Accreditation Information
Central Michigan University successfully initiated our process of accreditation review by the Higher Learning Commission and as a result, received its reaffirmation of accreditation on August 16, 2016. This process occurs once every ten (10) years. This is a review of all facets of the university, including academics, infrastructure, and resources. The review had many parts, including a confirmation that our university was and continues to follow all required Federal policies related to Title IV of the Higher Education Act. This assurance was necessary for CMU to continue receiving Federal financial aid for our students.
The process of preparing for the review provided a valuable opportunity for the entire CMU community to reflect upon the progress we had made since the last visit in 2005 and to engage in discussion of where we want to go in the future.
In April of 2016 a team of peer reviewers from HLC visited CMU and met with a robust number of CMU constituents. This review team also learned about CMU from documents provided. These documents assured HLC that we:
- Are guided by our university mission.
- Act with integrity in all our functions.
- Provide a high quality education.
- Are continually improving the education we provide.
- Have the structures and resources to carry out our mission now and into the future.
A multi-disciplinary team was drawn from across the university then, to prepare the documentation.
Thank you for your contributions making this time of reflection and self-study a valuable experience.
Sincerely,
Michael A. Gealt, Ph.D.
