What is integrated science?

Graduate ready to teach life, physical, earth and space sciences to middle school and high school students. The courses in the integrated science program will prepare you to teach science content noted in the Michigan Science Standards, including strong preparation in science inquiry through laboratory and field methods experiences.

Integrated science major overview

As an integrated science major, you'll be ready to educate students through a program that:

  • Provides the content knowledge in life, physical, earth and space sciences necessary to become effective K-12 science teachers.
  • Provides training and practice in designing and implementing effective, engaging and inquiry-based science lessons.
  • Prepare students to create a safe laboratory environment in the classroom by emphasizing the proper care and use of animals, as well as the planning, appropriate usage and storage of chemicals.
  • The Office of Educator Preparation Programs supports teacher candidates throughout their time at CMU. 

Completion of the Bachelor of Science in Education degree with a major in integrated science will qualify you for recommendation to the Michigan State Board of Education for a Secondary Standard Certificate. Certification in integrated science qualifies you to teach any science course in grades 6-12.
