Integrative Public Relations
Major
Program Overview
Integrative public relations combines courses and expertise from three departments — Journalism, Broadcast and Cinematic Arts, and Communication — and electives from departments throughout the university to create a comprehensive yet flexible program designed to prepare you for a successful public relations career.
Program Snapshot
Why This Program & What You'll Learn
Organizations of all kinds — from global companies to local nonprofits — rely on their relationships with the stakeholders to survive and succeed. Public relations professionals are the talented communicators who manage those relationships. They're creative problem-solvers who thrive in fast-paced environments. They're both able to execute major initiatives that require months or years of planning and nimbly respond to unplanned events.
In our IPR program, you’ll develop writing, planning, problem-solving and business skills. You’ll take core courses from three relevant disciplines: journalism, broadcasting and communication. Choose electives and additional coursework based on your specific interests like social media, video production, graphic design or the psychology of advertising. You’ll learn what it takes to be an effective strategic communicator for any type of institution.
Program Highlights
You'll have the opportunity to gain real-world experience through:
- 100% of our students complete at least one internship as part of their program.
- Our student-run PR agency, PR Central, which serves campus and community clients.
- Our chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA). PRSSA is a nationally affiliated pre-professional association offering portfolio-building opportunities, educational events, and scholarships.
