2025-26 Reaffirmation of Accreditation Information

Central Michigan University (CMU) is in the process of preparing the Assurance and Federal Compliance documents for the 2025-2026 accreditation review by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) in April 2026. This process occurs once every ten (10) years, and CMU was last accredited in 2016.

This is a review of all facets of the university, including academics, infrastructure, and resources. The review has many parts, including confirmation that our university continues to follow all required Federal policies related to Title IV of the Higher Education Act. This assurance is necessary for CMU to continue receiving Federal financial aid for our students.

The process of preparing for the review provides a valuable opportunity for the entire CMU community to reflect upon the progress we have made since the last visit in 2016 and to engage in discussion of where we want to go in the future.

In April of 2026 a team of peer reviewers from HLC will visit CMU and meet with a robust number of CMU constituents.  This review team will learn about CMU from documents that will be provided in advance of the visit.  These documents assure HLC that we:

  • Are guided by our university mission.
  • Act with integrity in all our functions.
  • Provide a high-quality education and are continually improving CMU’s educational offerings
  • Have the structures and resources to carry out our mission now and into the future.

A multi-disciplinary team was drawn from across the university to assist in the preparation of these documents and to collect supporting information.

Thank you for your contributions in the preparation of these documents to ensure a successful 2025-2026 accreditation visit.

 Sincerely,

Paula Lancaster, Ph.D.
Provost and Executive Vice President
