Code of Student Conduct
The Code of Student Conduct (the Code) establishes the rights and responsibilities of students and student organizations as members of the Central Michigan University community and establishes the processes and procedures used to address concerns when students may have violated this Code. The Code is intended to protect the rights and promote the safety of the University community and provide a fair process that promotes student learning, development, and accountability when necessary.
The University recognizes the conduct process as an opportunity to educate students about the impact of their actions, and the importance of personal responsibility and continuous growth. When possible, the conduct process provides students with an opportunity to identify a path for continued successful participation in the University community.
The procedures in this Code are University procedures and do not replace or substitute for filing charges with an appropriate law enforcement agency when such reporting is appropriate or required.
History and Authority
This Code was formally adopted by the Central Michigan University Board of Trustees on December 16, 1972. Since its adoption, the Code has been periodically reviewed and revised to respond to changes as needed. This revision was approved by the President and the Board of Trustees on September 24, 2026.
In accordance with policies and goals established by the Board of Trustees, the President is responsible for communicating rules and regulations governing student rights and responsibilities, including those governing student organizations. In fulfilling this responsibility, the President is obligated to assure the right of due process for students.
The President has designated the Vice President of University Engagement and Student Affairs as the person responsible for the administration of student conduct. The Vice President of University Engagement and Student Affairs appoints Conduct Proceedings Officers to administer the Code of Student Conduct processes to resolution.
