If you have been away for less than three (3) years, you may not need to reapply. Your next step is to connect with your academic advisor.
Is my CMU account still active?
Yes! If your last enrollment was less than three years ago, your cmich account is still active. If you have issues logging in, contact the Help Desk.
Can I return if I was suspended or dismissed?
Yes. If you have been academically dismissed or suspended, you may be eligible to return to CMU by submitting an Academic Reinstatement Request.
- If you were dismissed, you can apply for reinstatement after 12 months.
- If you were suspended, you can submit a request to return for the next semester.
Have you been gone for more than three years?
If you've been away for more than three (3) years, you need to submit a new addmissions application.
Is my CMU account active?
If your last enrollment was more than three years ago, your account has been inactivated. Once you submit a new admissions application and are readmitted, your account will be reactivated.
How do I change my campus?
If you have been away for more than three years, submit a new admissions application and select your desired campus. If you have been away for less than three years, connect with your academic advisor to discuss your options.
How do I change my program?
If you have been away for more than three years, submit a new admissions application and select your desired program or area of interest.
If you have been away for less than three years, connect with your academic advisor. Graduate students will need to submit a new application to change programs.

Financial Questions
Do I have to pay the application fee again?
No. Students returning at the same level of study are not required to pay the application fee again.
Can I return with an outstanding balance?
You may be able to return, but you will need to resolve any financial holds first. Email or call OneCentral at 989-774-3618 for help reviewing your account.
Can I return to CMU if my account is with a collection agency?
Yes, but the hold must be resolved first. You may contact the collection agency directly to make payment or contact OneCentral for assistance, by email or phone at 989-774-3618.
What does a prepayment hold mean?
A prepayment hold may be placed on your account after it has been referred to collections. Even if your past balance is paid in full, the hold may remain in place. This means future courses must be paid before registration. If you are eligible for financial aid, the prepayment requirement may be waived.

Can I return to CMU if I filed bankruptcy?
Yes. You may return to CMU even if your bankruptcy is still active. You may have a prepayment hold on your account and will need to work within those requirements.
Academic records and credits
Do my previously earned credits expire?
Undergraduate credit does not expire, but your bulletin year may need to be updated. Contact an academic advisor to understand how your credits apply to your degree.
Graduate-level credits are valid for seven (7) years for graduate certificates and master’s degrees, and 10 years for doctoral degrees.
Can I still view my academic history if I have a transcript hold?
Yes! You may view your academic history in CentralLink. This document can be personalized and printed as an unofficial transcript.
Bachelor degree information
How do I earn a second bachelor’s degree.
If you want to earn a second bachelor’s degree submit a new undergraduate admissions application and indicate that you are applying as a second degree-seeking student.
How do I add a major or minor to my bachelor’s degree?
Contact the department for the major or minor you want to add. You will meet with a faculty advisor to discuss requirements and how the program fits into your degree plan.
Students adding a non-teaching major or minor must also complete the Application to Add a Non-Teaching Major or Minor form and submit it to the Registrar’s Office.
