Mathematics Assistance Center
Mathematics Assistance Center tutors are ready to help with a wide range of courses from Elementary Algebra to Calculus 3 and beyond. Students who regularly get help from the MAC receive higher grades in their mathematics/statistics courses.

CMU mathematics faculty member takes research around the world
CMU mathematics professor Dr. Dmitry Zakharov has received a $42,000 Simons Foundation Travel Support for Mathematicians Grant, providing five years of funding for research travel and collaboration. His work focuses on algebraic and tropical geometry, and the grant will support visits with international collaborators, conference attendance, including the 2026 International Congress of Mathematicians, and opportunities to build new research partnerships.

New CMU certificate help educators become better college math teachers
CMU is launching a new 9-credit Graduate Certificate in Teaching Collegiate Mathematics in Fall 2026, designed for educators who teach, or want to teach, college-level mathematics and adult learners. The program gives instructors practical, research-based strategies for improving how students learn advanced math, without the time commitment of a Ph.D. The flexible certificate will cover active learning, classroom technology and the latest mathematics education research, while potentially helping graduates earn continuing education credits, qualify for pay increases or pursue new teaching opportunities.
